President of Turismo de Portugal
Holds a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, with several specializations in hospitality from Cornell University (USA).
From 1996 to 2001, he became Legal Advisor at Pestana Hotel Group. From 2001 to 2005, he was an Advisor to the Management for new projects, a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President in South America, where he was also responsible for the development and operations area at Grupo Pestana’s branch in Brazil.
From 2005 to 2007, he was Chief of Staff of the Secretary of State for Tourism in the 17th Constitutional Government.
From 2007 to 2011, he was responsible for the Human Resources, Communication and Marketing, IT and Purchasing areas, as well as for the Pestana Group’s new projects area in South America.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of Grupo Pestana, responsible for hotel operations in Hispanic America, with hotels in Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, Cuba and Uruguay, and for the development of the Group on the same continent.
He was also responsible for the Sustainability department of the Pestana Hotel Group, since its creation in 2009.
He has been President of Turismo de Portugal since February 2016.
He has been President of the ETC-European Travel Commission since September 2020.
He is President of the NEST-Centre for Tourism Innovation in Portugal.
Deputy Minister of Tourism of Uruguay
Graduated in Hotel Management and Tourism in Italy and the U.S.A.
Lived abroad for 15 years, working as a manager in the hotel Industry in Italy, France, Switzerland, England, Greece, Chile and Mexico.
He carried out managerial positions in important hotels such as the Puerto Vallarta Sheraton in Mexico and the Crowne Plaza in Santiago de Chile, among others.
In Uruguay, he was Marketing Manager at the Victoria Plaza Hotel, Executive Manager of the Solanas Emprendimientos Turísticos, and Executive Manager of the Mantra Resort y casino in Punta del Este.
He was also Executive Manager and Consultant in the following hotels in Montevideo: Cala di Volpe, After and Palladium.
In addition, he was Head of Ithu Politécnico of Montevideo for 27 years and Director of the Gastronomy Academy of Uruguay for the last 5 years.
